Since 1993, the Wetlands Preservation Organization (WPO), a student organization at the Haskell Indian Nations University, has led a successful campaign to halt the proposed construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway (SLT) through the Haskell-Baker Wetlands. WPO and local supporters continue their efforts to protect this fragile wetlands ecosystem. W. P. O.
